What we’ve built with.
The tools behind the work, grouped by what they are for. Each one lists the projects that use it.
Hardware
- KiCadOpen-source circuit board design software. We design every board in code, check it in KiCad and send it to the factory.10 projects: MVP-1 Rev B, back from the factory, Twelve boards, zero design-rule errors, TRAIL OD, an overdrive pedal kit
- STM32 and C firmwareSmall, dependable microcontrollers programmed in plain C. switchbridge runs on one.1 project: switchbridge, four switch inputs for about $2.44 of parts
- USB HIDThe standard way a USB device says it is a keyboard. It is why switchbridge needs no driver, no pairing and no battery.1 project: switchbridge, four switch inputs for about $2.44 of parts
- Zigbee, Z-Wave, Matter and ThreadThe radio languages smart-home devices speak. Hearth speaks all four on one local hub.1 project: Hearth, a home hub with no cloud account
- Raspberry PiA small, cheap computer that is plenty for a home hub, and a good test that our code really is light.2 projects: The DSP engine, Hearth, a home hub with no cloud account
- ESP32A tiny Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chip found in all sorts of gadgets. Squatch Provision puts one on your network.1 project: Squatch Provision
Audio
- SPICE circuit simulationA circuit simulator we use as the reference: a sound model is only believable if it matches the real circuit.4 projects: TRAIL OD, an overdrive pedal kit, CLAW, a distortion pedal kit, A circuit model held to its reference
- C++The language of our sound engine and tuner, written once and built for a laptop, a Raspberry Pi and a microcontroller.3 projects: The tuner locks in 44 ms, A circuit model held to its reference, The DSP engine
- Web AudioThe browser's own audio engine. The Squatch Rig plays through it live.4 projects: The tuner locks in 44 ms, Squatch Rig, Fretwright, a guitar tab editor
- FaustA language for describing sound processing, which can be turned into plugins and into code that runs anywhere.3 projects: A circuit model held to its reference, The number that didn't hold up, The DSP engine
WebAssembly
Rendering
- MermaidDiagrams and charts described in text. We draw ours in 3D so you can turn them; the live pieces on these pages are built this way.4 projects: Twelve boards, zero design-rule errors, The tuner locks in 44 ms, A circuit model held to its reference
- three.jsThe 3D library our charts and diagrams are drawn with.4 projects: Twelve boards, zero design-rule errors, The tuner locks in 44 ms, A circuit model held to its reference
- Hyperdimensional computingA way of holding a whole scene in a single long vector, which you can then slice and query.1 project: One 3D scene, held as numbers
- CUDA and MetalThe graphics-card languages on desktop and Apple machines. The same scene maths runs on both and the answers agree.1 project: One 3D scene, held as numbers
- WebGLHow a web page draws 3D on the graphics card. Our charts and diagrams use it, each with a text version.4 projects: Twelve boards, zero design-rule errors, The tuner locks in 44 ms, A circuit model held to its reference
- WebGPUThe browser's newer way to use the graphics card, for drawing and for compute. Our spectrogram runs its sound analysis on it, with a plain Canvas version for browsers without it.1 project: A guitar string, drawn by the graphics card
- Canvas 2DThe browser's plain drawing surface. Our tuner's strobe and the rig's controls are drawn on it, so they work almost everywhere.3 projects: The tuner locks in 44 ms, Squatch Rig, A guitar string, drawn by the graphics card
Apps
- SwiftApple's language for iPhone apps. Squatch Reality is written in it.1 project: Squatch Reality
- ARKit and RoomPlanApple's tools for seeing depth with an iPhone and drawing a room to scale.1 project: Squatch Reality
- Web BluetoothLets a web page talk to a device over Bluetooth, so setting a gadget up needs no app.1 project: Squatch Provision
Accessibility
- Switch accessThe built-in way phones and computers can be driven with one or a few big switches. switchbridge is the hardware half.1 project: switchbridge, four switch inputs for about $2.44 of parts
- Accessibility testingAutomated checks with axe-core plus keyboard and screen-reader passes, run across every page and every language we ship.1 project: Petnecto, an adoptable-pet search
Web
- Cloudflare Pages and WorkersWhere our websites live: fast static pages with a small piece of code beside them when a page needs one.4 projects: squatch.cc, our own website, mycratherapy.org, a site for a therapy practice, Petnecto, an adoptable-pet search
- MCP serversA small server that lets an assistant use a service: ours lists the studio's goods and Petnecto searches shelter pets.2 projects: Petnecto, an adoptable-pet search, Squatch Stack MCP, tools for your assistant
- alphaTabAn open-source engine that draws guitar tablature and standard notation in the browser. Fretwright edits its score model.1 project: Fretwright, a guitar tab editor
