Sound

A circuit model held to its reference.

Our sound models, compared against a circuit simulator.

A flow diagram from a circuit netlist to a plugin, compared against a simulator referenceMeasured

What it does

We publish how far apart the model and the circuit are, instead of asking you to trust the model.

Who it’s for

Anyone who wants an amp or pedal model they can believe.

Why we built it

Guitar effects are full of claims nobody checks.

What we’re proud of

On small signals the model stays within 0.031 dB of the simulator.

LiveCircuit to sound: netlist, reference, biquadsOpen full
Text version: Netlist to SPICE reference to biquad cascade, compared

Component values are read from the board's own netlist, simulated in SPICE, and converted to biquads by the bilinear transform. The plugin's response is compared against the SPICE reference rather than against taste, and the residual is published.

  1. the board's own netlist (not a hand-typed copy) leads to component values
  2. component values leads to SPICE AC reference
  3. component values leads to bilinear transform
  4. bilinear transform leads to biquads
  5. biquads leads to plugin
  6. SPICE AC reference leads to compare
  7. plugin leads to compare
  8. compare leads to residual, published 0.031 dB small-signal AC
  9. compare leads to left visible, not hidden (nonlinear half still hand-fitted)
